Animal Health Certificate (AHC) Rules & Legal Process

Post-Brexit EU travel rules require an Official Veterinarian (OV) to issue an AHC for every trip leaving Great Britain for the EU or Northern Ireland.

Key Rules Summary:

• Microchip First: Must be implanted before or on the same day as the rabies vaccination.
• Rabies Rule: Primary vaccines require 21 full days wait. Valid boosters require zero wait time.
• 10-Day Signing Window: The AHC must be signed within 10 days of entering the EU.
• 4-Month Validity: Valid for 4 months of travel within the EU and for returning to Great Britain.
• Tapeworm Rules: Required 24-120 hrs before entry for Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Malta, and Norway, as well as for ALL dogs returning to GB.
